A Great Lucia
Our class walked down to the church this morning for Lucia. Tanne, Anya, Won (Esther) and Caroline sang beautifully in the choir, Caroline also gave a lovely reading and Won a short solo. It was the best Lucia that I have seen performed at ISGR and a big thank you has to go to Moragh and the whole choir for their efforts.

Authors Chair #1 by Sander
Goosebumps; Horrorland
DR.
MANIAC VS ROBBY SCHARTS
by R.L. STINE
It all began when Robby
made a comic on his laptop about him being attacked by a villain he
made, then he realizes that Dr maniac is his brother Sam and another
villain, the scarlet starlet, is his friend! And then; he pressed
DELETE. Because they’re from his laptop. And well yeah. and that
was a comic! Soon Robby meets Britney and Molly from revenge of the
living dummy –and slappy! Also he meets 2 other girls from the
scream of the haunted mask. This book is cool but it did remind me I
freak out of this kind of book.
And I think that the
book was nice but creepy I highly recommend it.
The series of
Goosebumps horrorland is about every one has scary times and all go
to horrorland…… read them all and you’ll know what’s what.

5D up-date
Hello parents and students,
We have had some fast and furious weeks since coming back to school after the Autumn break. We have finished our POI (Programme of Inquiry) unit that looked at conflicts and how we can resolve them. Started a new POI unit which focus on migration, why people migrate, where do they go to and what happens when they get there. We visited Emigranternas Hus down by the river and found out why 1.4 million Swedes moved to the USA. We have had our swimming day, started and finished Persuasive writing as well as Report writing and had our first ‘authors chair’ (well done Sander). On top of this we have started our new POI assignment.
Over the next few weeks we will be continuing this pace as we will be working on our POI assignments in class (and at home!) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays so if you have a laptop/ipad and you are allowed/ you allow your child to bring it in then do so as our one good and one very old computer cannot help 22 students all at once! Note to parents: laptops will be locked in the safe when not in use. We will be starting our poetry writing unit this week which will conclude on the last day of school with a poetry recital, where parents will get to hear their children perform their own original poems while nibbling ginger cookies and sipping glögg.
Unlike the dull memories of poetry writing we have from previous years this time we will be jumping around, acting, singing, yelling, performing short poetic plays and generally having fun and writing poems in the process.
If you have not looked lately at the school calendar we have an in-service day this Tuesday 29th.
This year Lucia will be on Tuesday 13th December. This is a whole school event which involves all of ISGR going to Annedalskyrkan (click here for link to map). The concert starts at about 9.00 and lasts around 45 mins. Please make sure that all students are at school on time on this day as we will need to leave at 8.30 to walk down to the church. If you get stuck in traffic etc and you are driving, please go straight to the church. If you are student taking public transport by yourself, please go to school and talk to someone in the office. And yes parents are welcome!
I have asked the students to go home and talk to their parents it see if they will be attending the Winter Bazaar next weekend as we work out some type of schedule for year 5 next week. The schedule will be simple and as I informed the class, work around when people will be visiting the Bazaar. Next week I will find out who will be attending the Bazaar and out of those people who will be willing to help out. I will then sit down with Camilla and make a schedule. The PTA will be meeting the class on Thursday for a few minutes to give the students some final information.
On the last day of school both the year 5 classes will be putting on a poetry recital for the parents. The students will be reciting their own poems and the recital will take up almost all of the short last day. We will start at around 8.50 and continue for about an hour and have pepparkakor (ginger bread cookies) and glögg for snacks. This has always been a great morning and a great way for students to show off some of their talents. I understand everyone is very busy, but if you can make it please do, even if it’s for 20min.

Winter Bazaar 4th Dec
Dear parents,
The students in both Grade 5 classes expressed an interest to participate in the ISGR Winter Bazaar on Sunday 4th December 2011, and decided, democratically, to organize and run some activities for it. These activities will include a Winter Themed Treasure Map; the prize will be a Children’s Christmas Hamper Basket. The students also wanted to do the following two games: Name the Teddy and Guess the number of Lollies in the jar. Profits raised by the children from this venture will be used by the Grade 5 classes to organize a fun activity for the children later in the school year.
Angela Graham and Anjna Patel have kindly offered to help create the Winter Themed Treasure Map. The children will be able to add their personal touches at the end. We are asking you for a suggested donation of 20 kronor from each of the Grade 5 children to put towards these prizes. We would be grateful if you are able to send the money in by the end of this week (25th November) to give the Angela and Anjna time to purchase the items for the basket.
Thank you for your support,
Camilla and Christian

A few New (and old) things
Hi everyone, I have done a bit of work with the blog today, firstly after talking to Preet we decided that it was better to take away the 'pages' on the blog and just 'label' (tag) every post. So now if you want to see all the posts that have to do with the PTA then just click on the Label on the right or on the bottom of a post.
I have also found a way of being able to display documents without having to put them onto Google docs. I will now upload all documents to my account in scribd.com then upload them onto the blog from there, this way we can have them in this reader format.

PTA weekly letter
Each week Sara, our class PTA rep will be sending be the weekly PTA newsletter which then will be linked to the blog. I will add it as an attachment in the 'Parents' section. You will need to have a gmail account to be able to open it because I have to up load it into google docs. as this is the only option with adding documents to the blog.
I am working with the school IT guru, Preet to find ways around this problem as I know not everyone has a gmail account.
