Hello parents and students,
We have had some fast and furious weeks since coming back to school after the Autumn break. We have finished our POI (Programme of Inquiry) unit that looked at conflicts and how we can resolve them. Started a new POI unit which focus on migration, why people migrate, where do they go to and what happens when they get there. We visited Emigranternas Hus down by the river and found out why 1.4 million Swedes moved to the USA. We have had our swimming day, started and finished Persuasive writing as well as Report writing and had our first ‘authors chair’ (well done Sander). On top of this we have started our new POI assignment.
Over the next few weeks we will be continuing this pace as we will be working on our POI assignments in class (and at home!) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays so if you have a laptop/ipad and you are allowed/ you allow your child to bring it in then do so as our one good and one very old computer cannot help 22 students all at once! Note to parents: laptops will be locked in the safe when not in use. We will be starting our poetry writing unit this week which will conclude on the last day of school with a poetry recital, where parents will get to hear their children perform their own original poems while nibbling ginger cookies and sipping glögg.
Unlike the dull memories of poetry writing we have from previous years this time we will be jumping around, acting, singing, yelling, performing short poetic plays and generally having fun and writing poems in the process.
If you have not looked lately at the school calendar we have an in-service day this Tuesday 29th.
This year Lucia will be on Tuesday 13th December. This is a whole school event which involves all of ISGR going to Annedalskyrkan (click here for link to map). The concert starts at about 9.00 and lasts around 45 mins. Please make sure that all students are at school on time on this day as we will need to leave at 8.30 to walk down to the church. If you get stuck in traffic etc and you are driving, please go straight to the church. If you are student taking public transport by yourself, please go to school and talk to someone in the office. And yes parents are welcome!
I have asked the students to go home and talk to their parents it see if they will be attending the Winter Bazaar next weekend as we work out some type of schedule for year 5 next week. The schedule will be simple and as I informed the class, work around when people will be visiting the Bazaar. Next week I will find out who will be attending the Bazaar and out of those people who will be willing to help out. I will then sit down with Camilla and make a schedule. The PTA will be meeting the class on Thursday for a few minutes to give the students some final information.
On the last day of school both the year 5 classes will be putting on a poetry recital for the parents. The students will be reciting their own poems and the recital will take up almost all of the short last day. We will start at around 8.50 and continue for about an hour and have pepparkakor (ginger bread cookies) and glögg for snacks. This has always been a great morning and a great way for students to show off some of their talents. I understand everyone is very busy, but if you can make it please do, even if it’s for 20min.
